The IIMS is home to award-winning conductor and music educator Dr. Michael T. Dawson. Michael has toured the world as a conductor & singer and specialises in healthy singing, tuning, performance technique & new music. His workshops are perfect for community choirs, orchestras, wind bands, children and youth choirs, barbershop choruses & quartets and a cappella groups. Groups can book masterclasses and clinics with Michael while staying at or visiting the Institute.

Dónal set up a friendly and encouraging environment where the teachers felt that they could express their strengths and weaknesses regarding the music curriculum. We were active in our learning and we had a lot of fun! The content was extremely useful and appropriate and we hope to have Dónal back again soon.

I got such positive feedback from everyone. I thought it went really well, and worked effectively through Zoom... I was nervous and didn’t know what was going to happen, especially with the dog breathing warm-up, but it was brilliant... Great fun - just what we needed!

I come from both a business and a music background - working in funds for 14 years, I have many experiences of public speaking and it is an area where I want to improve my confidence. The first lecture was an excellent introduction. In the past, when I go into a studio to record vocals, I always warm up with exercises but I never thought of doing it for business meetings or presentations. Those exercises were really useful for waking up and getting focused before speaking. I often forget that the voice is an instrument in itself and deserves as much focus as warming up on a guitar or other instrument.
