Transition Year Work Experience
The IIMS invites Transition Year students from all over Ireland to complete their Work Experience placements with us.
Applications for placements for the academic year Sept 2026 - May 2027 will be accepted from June 2026. Placements will be allocated from October 2026 - May 2026 and successful applicants will be notified in September 2026.
Transition Year (TY) Work Experience is a great opportunity to try out a career that you are interested in. At the Irish Institute of Music and Song (IIMS), we give you a real-life insight into a career in music, working on our campus in Balbriggan, Co. Dublin.
On your TY placements, you will get to work directly with the professional musicians, music teachers that make up our Team at the Music Academy.
TY students work with us on a 1 week placement Monday - Friday, and times of attendance may vary to suit activities on the campus. While here our students will experience lots of varying activities, while building life-long skills in a dynamic and inclusive working environment.
Placements may include work in our state-of-the-art music venue; The Lark, (subject to activities on the week of your placement - NOT guaranteed).
What do I need?
Interns must be in Transition Year in any school in Ireland
Be able to provide their own accommodation for the week
Interest in at least one aspect of the music industry (education, production, performance, etc.)
Focus, energy, and an open mind!

Eligibility to join our part-time staff list, for work in our “Sounds Good Music Camps”.

Assist with any workshops, visiting groups, meetings, or Music Academy events.
Assist with our pre-instrumental classes, and the running of our children’s choir.
A greater understanding of the “behind-the-scenes” aspects of the music and events business
