Maia Matthews

Violin Tutor

At the age of seven Maia began to study violin under the tutelage of Irine Corverda. As a young teen, she studied with Melanie Briggs Cull (violinist with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra) and completed all of her graded exams in violin and theory with RIAM and ABRSM.

Maia was one of the founding members of the Julianstown Youth Orchestra in 2010, conducted by Fergus Sheil, where she held the position of a principal violinist for five years. Maia was fortunate over the years to have the opportunity to attend many masterclasses including those with Ilya Gringolts, and Tasmin Little. Maia was also a member of the DYO from the age of 12-16.

Maia graduated with a Bachelors of Music, and Master of Music from the University College Dublin with First Class Honours in both, where she was also a member of the UCD Symphony Orchestra for 2 years. Maia hopes to undertake a PhD in musicology in the future.
