Outreach: Bremore Educate Together Secondary School

Updated: Feb 17

Fingal International Festival of Voices (FIFOV) is well and truly international, attracting choirs from Belarus, the USA, Canada and Britain.

Just this week, the festival has announced that it has more than 60 singing groups registered to perform in its inaugural year on 12-15 March 2020.

Not only is FIFOV international; it is also local. As part of FIFOV Outreach programme, led by Dónal Kearney, there has been a huge emphasis put on involving the local schools.

Carol Murphy is Music Coordinator at Bremore Educate Together Secondary School. About the workshop, she said:

We really enjoyed the workshop with Dónal. The students were so engaged with all of the activities and they really felt they learned so much. As a teacher, it was great to get some new ideas for our choir. Thanks very much Dónal!

More than 20 music students from Bremore ETSS participated in the workshop in January, and some of them let us know what they thought:

  • "Great information"

  • "I enjoyed the songs!"

  • "Very informative! Great fun!"

  • "Very educational and entertaining!"

  • "Such positive vibes!"

  • "Very practical!"

This was the first time Bremore ETSS had engaged with FIFOV. The next step for them is to build the relationship with FIFOV, with Fingal Academy of Music and with the Irish Institute of Music. This will lead to future workshops and conducting masterclasses in Balbriggan with Michael T. Dawson. FIFOV is committed to helping schools grow their music departments, develop their school choirs and set up new choirs in schools without.

If your school or youth choir would like to try out one of our singing workshops, please drop Dónal a line at donal@fingalacademyofmusic.com.
