Festival Outreach - St Teresa's & Balscadden
Balbriggan is statistically one of the youngest towns in Europe. Therefore, the small town in north Dublin has one of the highest populations of children in Ireland. Balbriggan's population has doubled in the past twenty years. This means there are lots of children - and lots of singers enjoying the Outreach workshops as part of Fingal International Festival of Voices (FIFOV).
"I loved the moving bits while we were singing"- St. Teresa's pupil
As part of the FIFOV Outreach programme, Dónal Kearney has delivered high-energy music workshops in thirteen schools in Balbriggan area.
This includes St Teresa's National School and Balscadden National School. Some of the students and teachers got in touch with with some thoughts on the workshops.
"Dónal was brilliant. Is he coming back?
The music coordinator at. St Teresa's National School, Aisling Coleman, said: "The session with Dónal was very productive. He had such a great rapport with the children and I learned loads about warm-ups and how to approach exploring voices rather than just focusing on performance songs. I plan to introduce some of his ideas and approaches at our next rehearsal."
Another school participating in the Outreach programme as part of FIFOV is Balscadden Primary School. The music coordinator got in touch with the FIFOV team to pass on some feedback:
“Just a quick note to say thank you very much for the choir workshop. We all of us, kids and teachers alike, thoroughly enjoyed it and I can still hear the kids singing it around the yard."
The workshops involve singing, body percussion, games, harmony, and lots of vocal warm-ups.

"It was so cool. I felt very chilled. It was fun playing with our voices instead of just singing the songs for the concert" - St. Teresa's pupil
