Festival Outreach - Balbriggan Educate Together National School

Updated: Feb 26

As part of Fingal International Festival of Voices outreach, Balbriggan Educate Together National School enjoyed a 60-minute workshop in their school hall with Dónal Kearney.

Some of the teachers and children got in touch with us to pass on their reactions to the workshop. Gillian, one of the Balbriggan ETNS staff members, said:

As a teacher, I found the workshop to be excellently paced as it both challenged the children's ability to copy the teacher, but also gave enough repetition to allow the choir to learn the range of songs being sung - this was a choir ranging from 3rd class to 6th class and with a range of abilities.  There was a wide variety of vocal training techniques and fun songs that could be used within the classroom as well as with a choir.  The children stayed engaged throughout the entire workshop and left with a real "buzz" and enthusiasm for their singing.

And the children had their own thoughts...

  • "I think it was very good and helped us vocalise a lot better and made us work as a group better!" (3rd class girl)

  • "It was really fun and it helped us and it was fun." (3rd class boy)

  • "It was educational fun!" (4th class girl)

  • "It was very fun!" (4th class boy)

  • "I felt like it was very fun. Everyone was included and everyone participated." (5th class boy)

  • "It was a lot of fun. I learned lots of new stuff about singing." (6th class girl)

  • "It was amazing! It gave me a lot of new ways to warm up my voice." (6th class boy)

Principal of Balbriggan ETNS, Fintan, commented that:

Donal was able to motivate and stimulate the assembled children into wholehearted good-fun singing including challenging pieces across a range of genre for the full-duration of his session."

The workshops involve singing, body percussion, games, harmony, and lots of vocal warm-ups. If your school is interested in finding out more about our Singing workshops, please get in touch at donal@fingalacademyofmusic.com or call 083-8505978.
